Be A Better Packer
My job requires that I carry enough clothes to get me through the trip that I am on. The first problem is that I often have to carry my bags on and off of many airplanes a week. Sometimes it’s for a flight that I am actually working and other times, it’s on a commute to work which is even more difficult. The second problem is that my roll-a-board is broken! Yes, the handle came right off on the second day of one of my trips. So, I have been carrying around a much smaller rolling bag. My Captain asks how I can possibly have everything packed in that “small bag” for four days and can I please talk to his wife? Ha! Here’s a card.
What we need to look at first is where you are going, when and for how long. The first rule of thumb is to lay everything out on the bed and put back half. I do not always follow that rule and simply try to pack smart and buy good fabrics for my travels. Fabrics that are light and not easily wrinkled are the best. You can layer and switch it up with accessories for day to night. Although not particularly light, I also like to bring a pair of jeans and then a variety of tops to wear. I wear something nice on the aircraft for evening and proper travel attire. No, pajamas are not actually appropriate unless you are under 5 yrs old.
TravelPro Luggage
This is the piece of luggage that I have been using for the last two trips and it is working out pretty well albeit a bit full. What’s in my bag right now?
1 pair of jeans, 1 long sleeve shirt, 1 short sleeve shirt, 1 two piece swimsuit, 1 workout outfit, 2 pairs of socks and sneakers, other undergarments, cosmetic case with other essentials such as hair and tooth brush, ect. and extra uniform pieces, including pants, sweater and shell.
I wore the skirt and long sleeve shirt with me and I mix and match the pieces over the four days. It really depends on how much time I have in the hotels and how many flights I do a day as to what I bring. There are times when I have only brought workout clothes just in case but knew that I wouldn’t be going out or have any time for sight seeing.
The suitcase is only 24 x 15 x 10 inches, so “How did I do it?”
Sneakers go on one side upright and opposite each other (toe to heel). Then the clothes are rolled and laid in rows working up. The front pockets that are usually for a computer but since I have a separate bag for that stuff, I put my flat iron, hair brush and other smaller things in the front there. With a little practice you to can do it.
