I have tweeted many times just how ridiculous the internet is in the Salt Lake City airport. One seat, usually by the window in certain areas of certain concourses, such as gate C5 and D8. so, I wrote to the airport to ask what is going on with it and here’s the response that I received:
Thank you for your email. I’m sorry about the frustration you have encountered with the Wi-Fi. We are currently upgrading the equipment and installing additional access points to improve the service. We are also working on locating interference networks throughout the airport.
Access points are placed as follows: E Concourse-one in each seating area; D Concourse-one at the upper end of the concourse and one near the far end of the concourse; C Concourse-one at the upper end, one right in the middle, and one at the far end of the concourse; B Concourse-one in the middle of the upper B and one near the end of lower B; A Concourse-one right in the middle of the concourse; one in each connector; and one in each baggage claim area.
We hope to have the new equipment in place very soon and hope to see a considerable improvement to the network.
Thank you for your interest in Salt Lake City International Airport.
If you are having trouble with the internet, keep this in mind.
UPDATE 2/2/12
I have been traveling through the Salt Lake City airport for four months now and have been gathering some data as to where you can get online in this particular airport.
Usually, my flight to Cincinnati goes out of Concourse D, gate 2-8. Today, once again flying out of Concourse D, I decided to get a breakfast pizza at California Pizza. I do not recommend the pizza or the area for WiFi! The California Pizza in other cities has been quite good but not here. I am not sure if it was the time of day or the particular location however, that’s a different post all together. The WiFi was not even obtainable so I simply packed up and went to the gate. Sitting right by the window at gate D5 was also a bust. About 10 minutes before I had to board (I had been there for an hour) the internet decided that I was worthy. Thanks.
Just behind the construction call in Concourse E, you will find a Starbucks. The employees are a little unusual but the internet works and usually pretty fast. Plus there are a few plugs. One has been covered by the milk and sugar station and the other one is on the wall by the plants where the tables have been moved, just behind the phones. You can pull a table over if you like though. They don’t seen to mind however, I always put it back so perhaps that’s why they don’t say anything. Around the corner by the gates, there are plenty of plugs too and even desk stations behind the smoking room!
Concourse C has a great restaurant, Squatters Pub & Brewery, right by C2, which is another place that they flight to CVG will go out of. It’s perfect. The internet is great and there are a few seats (like the one on the back window just under the t.v. and the booth just past the doughnut counter against the wall adjacent the bar. I recommend the egg, bacon and cheese on a multi grain bagel with coffee and fast email!
If none of these meet your fancy, then try to find one of those charging stations and pick the seat closest to the window. Perhaps there’s a special draw into that area because it seems to work even though the window seat by the gate was impossible today. Who like’s a game of craps?
